How to Find UsIway UpdatesThe Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT) announced that overnight demolition of the old I-195 bridge over Wickenden Street in Providence will begin on Sunday, January 10. The work is part of the I-way project, and will take place during the overnight hours next week, beginning at 8 p.m. on Sunday. RIDOT will maintain traffic on Wickenden Street, but motorists will only find one lane of travel in each direction when demolition is taking place. RIDOT expects this work will take approximately one week to complete, with lane restrictions in place Sunday through Thursday nights from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. Additional work may be needed the following week, however, RIDOT expects that will take place during the daytime and not require any lane closures. All schedules are weather dependent and subject to change. Snow or extreme cold could cause delays in the schedule. A temporary ramp to Exit 20 on I-195 East will be in place through Fall 2010. RIDOT will then relocate Exit 20 to its permanent location, which will be after the Broad Street overpass. Access to Exit 20 has been relocated in order to allow Iway construction to continue. Work scheduled includes construction of a new on-ramp from Point Street to I-95 South, construction of the permanent ramp for Exit 20, and a new Exit 19 from I-95 South to the hospitals area and Eddy Street. The Department anticipates the Point Street and new Eddy Street ramps to open in late 2010. Detailed information, including alternative route maps, are available on RIDOT’s website, www.dot.ri.gov. Additional information is available by calling 511 or listening to the Highway Advisory Radio system on 1630 AM. Information is also available on RIDOT’s social networking websites: Facebook, Blogger, MySpace and Twitter. The latter of these features real-time updates on highway incidents from RIDOT’s Transportation Management Center. Additionally, motorists can contact RIDOT’s Customer Service Department at 401-222-2450 weekdays between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., or by email at customerservice@dot.ri.gov. |
